My dog Osa and I must have gotten Lyme at the same time.  We lived on the beach area at Cape Cod, MA and the ticks there were HORRIBLE .  I had a bite on my forehead, but the docs there denied it was a tick or spider bite and mis-dx'd me. I wasn't dx with Lyme until about 17 years later (2003), but I was aware that something was wrong with me and getting worse all the time.

My dog Osa was long gone by then, but now that I know the symptoms I'm sure she had Lyme too.  She even had facial palsy toward the end of her life and had chronic ear infections nearly her whole life. She got hemetomas in both earlobes from shaking her head.  Nothing I gave her from the vet would stop it.  She had intermittent, unfound lameness in her leg joints, often limping, and I ended up having to put her down due to a stroke that she would not come out of.

Osa was a beautiful girl, and Lyme devastated, distorted, and killed her.

Hi there Annie.  Uh..I have 7 dogs and uh, they have many of the symptoms you describe, but I had the disease before I got the dogs which means that "I" gave it to them?? or they are just getting old and have bad ears?  The only one that is peppy to the point of homicidal thoughts is Jackson and he's the licker... So I'm praying that I have not infected my kids because that would kill me.

I've read about 8 books on Lyme and they don't discuss the animal symtoms much.  Maybe I don't wanna know?  I'm already seeing Lyme hanging on vine.:D

Eve,

To my knowledge the only way dogs get Lyme is through tick bites.
Since dogs seem to pick up ticks easily and they could go unseen till they bloat and fall off, dogs are at high risk for Lyme & other tick borne diseases.

Go to our website and look down the navigation bars on the left.  You'll see one on Dogs & Ticks.  Lots of good info there.

How the heck did you add that photo?  I'm really losing my mind on this one. I managed to add the photo of myself on my profile, but it only shows up half the time???  I want to send you a photo of my kids and I have tried several times from the icon and the browse button, but alas must admit defeat.

Annie,

Ohhhh, it puts the photo in after you hit post!!!  See I'm learning every day.  That is a photo of some of the most spoiled, coddled, doted on, bratty, demanding animals in North America.  I have begun to wonder if Beggin Strips has added some addictive drug to their horrid treat because our dogs will fight us, bite us, beg us to the end for the bag of chemicals.  Disgusting. (all rescues)  They are supposed to be eternally grateful for being rescued and they were for the first years...now, its all gone to hell.

Oh Eve and Annie,

You have such large, wonderful families!!!   Alas, we have an "only" child...Dog-Dog, that is unless you count the 8 1/2 grandchildren.  (There could be another 1/2 on the way, we are praying (grandchild, that is...:P)).  We are a many blended family!!

Someday, I too, will be photo download literate, and share our happy "riverdog".  Then, I will be :dude:.

You already are :dude:.

All you have to do is reply, then at the bottom of the text box click on "browse" and then you find your pic in your computer and voila!

You will see it in your reply.

Talk about river dogs..... well, ok this is Lake Amistad, but they have been on all 3 rivers feeding the reservoir.  This is Suzy in orange  my beloved Stella who passed away in Oct 06.  I can't get them out of the water if I try, lol.  Like little kids.

Yes, those are doggie life vests.

Hehehe, looking at Eve's pic reminds me of the Ozbournes - not that they look like Ozzie & Sharon, but it looks like they are competing with them for number of dogs, lol.  I think the Oz's have 15 smallish dogs.  Eve's catching up!

:P
