Time to contact the Texas Attorney General!
This Call to Action comes from our own Suzanne with "Stand Up for Lyme". PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU ACT.
Texas Lyme Patients: (both current and in remission)
This message is both URGENT and IMPORTANT.
We have heard from a reliable source that Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott does not believe that Lyme is a problem in Texas. ILADS and the LDA are asking all Texas Lyme patients (or their caregivers) to contact the Texas Attorney General's Consumer Protection office to tell them that Lyme disease is, indeed, a significant problem in Texas.
Volume is critical! A large number of contacts made by members of the Texas Lyme community will make the point that Lyme and its treatment are important concerns that have been largely dismissed by an uninformed medical establishment, certain state agencies, and legislators.
The most important thing when you make your call is to present your information in a respectful manner, in the same way you would address a judge. This is VERY IMPORTANT.
You can start your call saying something like, "I am calling to tell you about my problems getting treatment for Lyme disease in Texas, and the situation is getting worse."
Then, in two or three sentences only, tell them your story, covering key points such as:
- I was infected in Texas [if this applies to you]
- My doctor insists that there is no Lyme in Texas [if this applies to you]
- I saw [x number of] doctors before getting a proper diagnosis
- I lost [x number of] years of my life before finding a doctor who would treat me
- I now have to travel out of state for Lyme treatment because my doctor lost his license for treating Lyme [if this applies to you]
- I now have to travel out of state for Lyme treatment because my doctor had to leave the state to treat Lyme due to action or threatened action by the Texas Medical Board [if this applies to you]
- I tested positive for Lyme disease by a lab specializing in Lyme testing but my doctor in Texas will not treat me because of the very strict IDSA guidelines [if this applies to you]
Tell YOUR story: be respectful, concise, and brief.
A phone call is probably best, but if you prefer to write, you can send a fax (preferred) or email:
