Are there currently, or have there ever been, any organized 5k/10k running events that wupport Lyme in the Dallas area? As a Lyme patient, and a runner (more past than present, sadly), I think this would be a beneficial activity. I have some experience with this, but did not know if it were already in the works, or had been tried in the past.

Hi TickTalker - WELCOME to the Board!

With regard to your question - I've never heard of anything like that being done in the DFW area.  Of course, I've been that sickly gal that curls my lip up at just the sound of anything aerobic, so I wouldn't have been in the right "circles" to pay attention to such.

Honestly, though, most people around here are so ignorant about Lyme I doubt ANY kind of fundraisr has been done - at least not on a large scale.

How is your health, Ticktalker?  Is this something you think you'd be interested in doing?  Have you ever organized a running event?  Are you familiar with all the necessitiies to get a running evnt organized...other than having actual runners?  And how would that rake in the much needed bucks?

I'm ready to hear any ideas -even if bizarre at first -as that's how you compare, combine and evntually get to the "do-able" parts.

Thanks for getting this idea started...

DR

Hi Donna,

My name is really Sheryl. I'm sure the screen name had you going for a bit, right? I think I was feeling a little witty. :D

Yes, I still call myself a runner. I have not been very consistent for the last 3-4 years, but my passion is still there. Before I got sick I did partake in a few marathons.

I first suspected Lyme in 1993ish, got tested (improper lab) and it was negative, then the whole thing went into remission until 2002. Found a Lyme literate doctor, tested again and was found positive- chronic Lyme. I have done well until this year, and now it is getting hard. I was so inconsistent getting to school (teacher) had recurring illness which was truly more herxing than anything else. I have good weeks, then horrible. This is a short version, but now I am home for the rest of the year due to doctor's orders. It is the first time in 23 years to be not working. I do hope i will be able to get back, but wanted to involve myself as an advocate as much as I could until then. It is my kids I am really concerned for, and that is a whole different story. ........So, here I am!!

I have not organized a run. I have only participated in tons. I do have contacts, and could kinda "feel"  my way through the process, quiry the profits vs what has to be put out etc. I would be happy to field the idea for you and then let you know.

I need to feel like I am making a difference.

Let me know,

Sheryl

Sheryl, just you being here makes a difference, and there are many ways to "contribute" to the Lyme Community.  If you feel up to organizing a run in the DFW area, that might be a great fundraiser.  People who like to run will always participate in these things.  Or it could be a 5K Run/Walk.  Hey, just coz there are those of us who can't run or even walk a mile, let alone 6, doesn't mean there aren't people who can and will.

Right?  :dude:

There is a children's book program where you earn $2.00 per book sold and selling 60 gets the group a children's chair to auction off (or use as a give-away for top seller).

We have a big demand for our TXLDA brochure & need to raise a lot of funds for the printing, pastage, shipping, etc.  Does anyone have any ideas for "corporate sponsorships?"
